“The drafting of memorandum of understanding (MoU) is currently in process. State consent will be taken and also the stakeholders will be taken into confidence by the Union government before going ahead with the project,” BJP Lok Sabha MP Narendra Sawaikar said.
“The Union Ministry for Shipping said that after declaration of inland waterways as national waterways, only the regulation and development as specified by the Inland Waterways Authority of India Act comes under central purview, all other aspects remain under purview of the State government,” he clarified, rubbishing the claims that Goa will cease to have control over the river beds as also the land on the banks.
The BJP leader said Goa will benefit as major rivers, including Mandovi and Zuari, will be dredged with central funding.
