VASCO: Vasco police on Monday evening inspected the trial rooms of tailors and garment stores in Vasco, amid concerns of privacy among female customers.
Five police teams led by PSIs inspected 35 ladies tailoring and readymade garments stores in the port town to check whether the trial rooms are fitted with any hidden cameras and two-way mirrors.
Speaking to Herald, PI Sagar Ekoskar said he received information that some ladies tailoring and readymade garment shops are fitted with hidden cameras.
Acting on the information, five police teams led by Vasco PSIs inspected all the changing rooms at the tailoring and garment shops.
“In all, 35 such tailoring and readymade garment shops were inspected by the police teams and four shops were found having inadequate security. I have warned all the four shops to put their changing rooms in order and have given them a week’s time,” informed PI Ekoskar.
“This initiative is taken for the safety and security of the ladies and is perhaps done for the first time in Goa and that too in Vasco. I will conduct this exercise every month and the ladies tailoring and garment shops should not take the inspection lightly,” he said.
According to sources, hidden cameras are mostly found installed in the keyhole, door handle from inside, plug hole and ceiling fan. At times, double sided mirror is fixed which acts as a mirror from inside, but the person from outside can see through it.
“Since this is the first time a step is taken by Vasco police, the government should provide them with a gadget to trace such electronic items in the changing rooms of the shops,” said the source.
As a piece of advice to the women, the source said the women once in the change room should try to switch off the lights, and they will be able to see a dim red light emitting from the hidden camera and with the help of the mobile phone torchlight, the women should go close to the mirror and try to flash the light through the mirror.
“If the mirror is double-sided, then they will be able to see the other person on the other side of the mirror,” the source added.
