VASCO: Vasco locals irked over frequent power cuts want the issue to be solved permanently.
Durgesh Rege, a software engineer complaining about frequent power cuts in New Vaddem area, said that due to frequent power cuts the Internet connectivity effects badly which further delays the online work. At night due to frequent power cuts people don’t even able to get proper sleep. The erratic power supply is making life troublesome.
A woman living in a residential complex expressed fear of short circuit due to the disruptions. “The electrical appliances can be damaged and in an untoward eventuality it could even lead to short circuit of whole electrical wiring in the house. The Electricity Department will not take responsibility for that.”
Speaking on the issue in Mormugao Taluka specially in Vasco, New Vadem, Baina areas, Assistant Engineer Sanjeev Mhalshekar said few days back during the onset of monsoon there was heavy winds, tree falling incidences due to which there were frequent power cuts as our linesmen were rectifying faults and other repair works wherever needed.
When asked about the reasons behind repeated power failures, Mhalshekar informed that Vasco sub-station receives power supply from Verna sub-station via underground cable. Verna sub-station receives power supply from Xeldem and Ponda sub-stations. Therefore any interruption in these two stations causes power supply breakdown in Vasco which is at the tail end. Even the grid failure also affects Vasco.
He requested locals to cooperate with their staff while they are sorting out issues pertaining to power supply. Mhalshekar further urged the locals to contact Electricity Department office landlines numbers and 1912 toll free number in case of any grievances regarding power cuts.
