VASCO: Lodging its protest against the failure of BJP government to control price rise in the country, the Vasco Block Youth Congress Committee held protest in the Vasco city, on Wednesday.
The Youth Congress also submitted a memorandum to Mormugao deputy collector highlighting unabated rise in prices due to the failure of BJP government, demanding urgent action to ameliorate the sufferings of common man.
Some 50-odd congress workers held a protest rally on the streets of Vasco by shouting slogans against the BJP government and the same culminated at Mormugao deputy collector office in Vasco.
Addressing the gathering, Congress leader Saifullah Khan said that the BJP, which came to power in the State and at the Centre by raising hue and cry about price rise and high rate of inflation and promising ‘Achhe Din’, has completely failed to control the prices of essential commodities, including onion, vegetables and pulses, and the general public is facing hardships in sustaining their livelihood.
“On behalf of the people we want to convey the sentiments of common people to the government that during 2014 Lok Sabha elections, its election manifesto promised to bring down the prices of essential commodities within the first 100 days. However, the handling of economy by the government has been totally reckless. The government of the day does not appear to be in control and there is no vision and thinking to control spiraling prices of commodities of daily use by common people,” Khan said.
“Further, the prices of petroleum products have decreased in the international market, but instead of passing on this benefit to the general public, the Central government has, instead, hiked excise duty on crude oil,” he said.
Khan demanded that the government should immediately take steps to control price rise in the country.
“Though it is duty of the government to study the impact of price rise and curb it, but it has failed. Therefore, on behalf of the people, Congress demands that the government ensure food security and creation of buffer stock in the country. They should stop the policy of robbing farmers and looting common man. Steps should be taken to bring down price of wheat, rice, sugar, dal etc as Diwali festival is fast approaching,” he said.
