CANACONA: Following the reports published in recent Herald editions, Deputy Chief Minister Chandrakant Kavlekar and Deputy Speaker Isidore Fernandes assured to carry out tarring of roads in the affected villages of Quepem and Canacona soon. Locals have been suffering in the absence of motorable roads in these villages.
It may be recalled that Herald had recently highlighted the plight of a Vavurla local who was unable to get medical attention in time due to absence of road from the village. He had suffered a stroke and expired on the same day.
Further, children from the villages in the forest areas are deprived of education facilities due to the absence of road connectivity. Those, who are studying, are forced to stay away from home with their relatives near the school.
Kavlekar, who is the Quepem MLA and Fernandes, the Canacona MLA, while speaking to the media, said that they had spoken to the Tribal Welfare Minister Govind Gaude. They stated that they had received an assurance from Gaude that the road to Vavurla, which falls in Quepem constituency, will be built through tribal sub-plan.
“The no objection certificates from the forest department for Vavurla and Cajugotton roads will be issued shortly”, said Kavlekar to the media.
Speaking about the tarring of roads in Canacona constituency, Fernandes said that it will be done shortly.
“I am personally pursuing the asphalting of roads to Marle, Keri, Ponsulemoll, Nadkem, Avem and Vavurla (from Canacona side) with the forest department and these villages will get motorable tarred road in coming months” Fernandes added.
