MARGAO: The Velim gram sabha on Sunday demanded that the government takes an early call on investigation and closure of the 2012 February 25 CID assault case haunting the villagers since the last two years.
The contentious issue figured at the Sunday gram sabha when members expressed their unhappiness over the government inaction in setting up an investigating team and closing the case.
After much discussion, the meeting resolved that the Panchayat body should ask local Velim MLA Benjamin D’Silva to raise the issue in the Legislative Assembly by highlighting the plight of the villagers.
They also demanded that the government takes up the issue on a priority by closing the case after investigations.
Meanwhile, the gram sabha has given a go-head to the Panchayat to carry out tax assessment to revise the house tax on both residential and commercial units. The house tax was last revised in the year 1986.
Sarpanch Melvyn Sanches also tabled the Budget estimates for the financial year 2014-15, wherein a proposal is made to earmark Rs 50 lakh towards the developmental projects.
The issue of plastic waste collection also came up for discussions at the Sunday meeting and it was resolved that the Panchyaat would collect the dry and plastic waste ward wise on a weekly basis.
