PONDA: Viraj Dabholkar, 32 from Veling Mardol, was killed in a head on collision between a tempo and a two wheeler at Mangueshi on Ponda-Panjim highway in the wee hours on Thursday.
The incident occurred at around 12.30 am when Dabolkar was returning home while the speeding milk tempo which was proceeding towards Panjim, knocked him down and dashed against an electricity pole. A critically injured Dabholkar was shifted to the Sub District Hospital by 108 ambulance where he breathed his last. The impact of the accident was such that the scooter was mangled and the electric pole was completely damaged.
Recently married, Viraj was working in the Gulf, had come down on a vacation and was supposed to resume his duty on November 28. A pall of gloom descended on the village as the news of the tragedy spread in the village.
The tempo driver Saliman Shaik from Tisk Usgao was arrested by the Mardol police and are further investigating the case. An offence under Sections 279 and 304 A of the IPC was registered against the accused.
