Velingkar’s Goa Prant to merge with RSS soon

Final call to be taken after March 2; GSM will remain

PANJIM: Rebel RSS leader Subhash Velingkar who had formed a separate Goa Prant in September last year said that almost 4000 cadres who had rebelled against the RSS with him would now voluntarily merge with the Konkan Prant of RSS. He said there is no need of any written correspondence or approval to join the Sangh.
Velingkar had formed a separate Goa Prant of the RSS after he was relieved from the post of Sanghchalak of Goa RSS.  “We won’t have any correspondence and there is no need for it. Sangh is so informal that there is no need of such written correspondence and NOCs etc, we will join voluntarily. We were not going to the shakhas as we were part of the BBSM and we will now start going to the shakhas,” Velingkar told Herald.
He said that almost six meeting have already been held all over Goa to work out the merger with the Konkan Prant and the final decision will be taken after March. “We want to involve
everybody in the decision making as we have almost 4000 cadres with us who were supported our decision to separate with the cause to protect the local languages,” Velingkar said.
He added, “We had decided in September that post the elections we will merge with the Konkan Prant. We are just reviewing everyone’s though before taking a final call.”
Velingkar also said that none of the Swayamsevaks will ask for the same position. “We are not for any position but that doesn’t mean that we are surrendering. Neither are we surrendering nor are we compromising, a swayamsevak is a permanent swayamsevak with principles,” Velingkar said when asked if they would demand for the same positions they held earlier.
Velingkar supported the GSM which was formed to fight the February 4 Assembly elections protesting the BJP’s failure to stop grants to English primary schools. “Goa Suraksha Manch will continue as a political front playing a crucial role in State politics,” he said.
GSM President Anand Shirokar said past meetings have led to the decision that the political party should continue to take up major issues. As far as BBSM is concerned, it will also continue to exist until the demand to stop grant to English primary schools is fulfilled, he said.
On the merger of the Goa Prant with the Konkan Prant, Shirodkar said, “The movement in protest and the split with the ideologies of the RSS over the medium of instruction issue was appreciated in Goa and all over the country. That is the reason each and every cadre is being addressed before finalizing the decision (of merger) and their views are been considered.”
