Vending Committee of the Corporation City of Panjim (CCP) is still under formation. Once this committee comes into existence it will resolve the pending issue of relocating the kiosk owners of Panjim city.
It may be recalled that following a High Court directive the CCP had removed almost 110 kiosks from the Panjim city which were obstructing the footpaths in the year 2009.
However, the kiosk owners had approached the bench of High Court in Goa and challenged the demolition of their respective kiosks.
In the court the matter was amicably resolved with the condition that the CCP will relocate all of them in the new market complex in Panjim.
Accordingly, almost 80 kiosks were compensated with shops in the market complex while around 30 kiosk owners were held back as government had come up with the vending committee formation to deal in such matters.
Commissioner of CCP Dipak Desai said that the formation of the vending committee is under process and would be finalised soon.
He said that after appointing all the members on the committee which includes members from planning board, health, two corporators, etc, the file would go to the government for the final approval.
It is learnt that some of the kiosk owners, after taking the allotment certificate, have either kept the shops closed or sub leased it and most of them are operating their trades.
However, none of them have paid the licence fees, rent and also not signed the agreement with the CCP, Commissioner has informed.
He said that of the 476 eviction notices, which were served by the CCP to the owners, 110 kiosk owners are relocated and also compensated. The final order of eviction is already issued by the CCP and some of them have approached the district court and challenged the order of CCP, he informed further.
The Commissioner informed that 128 final eviction orders have signed by him and issued to the kiosk owners.
“Once the vending committee is formed the entire issue of Panjim market and its shops’ allotment will be resolved,” he said.
The remaining kiosk owners, who were vacated in second phase, form the private areas and due to the road widening will be compensated after processing their application through the vending committee.
The Commissioner said that CCP is also in the process of identifying a place to relocate them.
