SANGUEM: The wife of the deceased linesman Devidas Velip was on Friday handed the pension and a sanction letter for financial assistance.
The letter was handed over by Minister Pandurang Madkaikar, in the presence of Sanguem MLA Prasad Gaonkar.
The minister said this was the first case wherein the kin of a deceased electricity department employee received an increased compensation of Rs 7 lakh, adding that the compensation was fixed at Rs 2 lakh earlier and was increased to Rs 7 lakh after he took charge of office.
Madkaikar also informed that an inquiry over the untimely death of the deceased was under progress and said the department was in process of finalising the job on compassionate ground for a family member of the deceased.
