Verla-Canca deliberates on illegal sale of groundwater

MAPUSA: Sale of ground water, illegal constructions, tenant verification drive, land filling, garbage management were among the other issues debated at the Verla-Canca panchayat gram sabha.

The gram sabha unanimously resolve to declare Mhadei Wildlife sanctuary as a Tiger Reserve.

The issue of Mhadei River diversion was discussed and the Gram Sabha demanded for withdrawal of permissions given by the Central Government to the Karnataka’s Detail Project Report (DPR) for their Kalasa Bhandura Project on River Mhadei and its diversion.

The gram sabha demanded that garbage be  disposed of in a scientific manner .

The mushrooming of illegal constructions and filling of agricultural fields was debated and sarpanch Dipali Bicholkar informed that the panchayat has already written to the North Goa Collector and Administrator of Comunidade about it. 

Tenant verification drive was discussed at length and members demanded that the police be requested to do the needful at the earliest. 

Gram sabha members requested the panchayat to take steps and stop the sale of  groundwater here as it was drying up village wells.
