MAPUSA: Irked over irregular water supply in the village, Verla Canca locals on Monday gheraoed Bardez PWD AE Belgaonkar in his office.
Locals submitted memo to the AE and demanded that water be supplied for at least four hours on a daily basis.
Locals have threatened to stage protest outside the PWD office Mapusa on Thursday if the authorities fail to solve the problem within next two days.
The residents complained of undergoing severe hardship due to irregular water supply and accused the PWD staff of diverting water to hotels for personal benefits.
Locals claimed that since last six years they were getting regular water supply but since last December onwards, the supply has been irregular. The water supplied is only for half-an-hour daily and to add to their woes the pressure is low and in such situation they cannot store enough water for their daily needs, the locals complained.
Locals claimed that the hotels in the village receive regular water supply and accused the PWD officials and staff at Mapusa of diverting the water to different locations for their personal gains.
However, the AE Belgaonkar said, “Due to low pressure and voltage, the tanks in the village are not receiving water. We will look into this matter and necessary action will be taken.”
