MAPUSA: The Verla-Canca gram sabha has decided not to issue licences for any multi-dwelling projects as the village did not have basic infrastructure in place. The resolution was taken after villagers’ uproar that the village already face issues with irregular power and water supply.
Lincoln Braganza a local resident pointed that the roads in the village are narrow and the village already faces problems of irregular water and electricity supply and the panchayat should stop issuing approvals and licences for multi-dwelling projects.
Locals present for the gram sabha supported the decision and a resolution was later adopted not to issue licences for multi-dwelling projects until proper infrastructure was in place.
Villagers also raised concerns against rampant construction taking place in the fields and on the hills.
Local said that panchayat should take the farmers into confidence and start community farming and stop illegal filling that is going on at the moment,” Braganza said.
Verla-Canca Sarpanch Dipali Bicholkar agreed to hold a joint inspection along with Comunidade and get to a solution on priority. The land belongs to Comunidade.
