MARGAO: The flying squad and Verna police descended at Prial, Cansaulim sea shore and stopped work of flattening of the sand dunes after the villagers took to the streets in protest.
PSI Rohan Madkaikar of Verna Police Station rushed to the site with a posse of policemen and stated that the individuals carrying out the work had been asked to halt their work and bring all the work documents and permissions on Monday where an inspection will be held. The Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority ( GCZMA) will also be present for the inspection along with the flying squad and the police stated that they would initiate action based on the findings of the inspection.
When news spread of a fence being erected at the site, villagers gathered in large numbers and stopped work on the sandune by a JCB machine. Villagers have vowed to monitor the case and have called on the authorities to carry out a thorough probe.
