Nineteen Goans which include 11 men and 8 women had left Goa for Amarnath on July 10 via Mangala Express. The devotees are from Bardez, Marcaim and Pernem.
“The devotees reached Amarnath on July 10 and took blessing. As we were returning back, we were caught in landslide at Mir Bazar,” said a devotee Sushant Tande, president North Goa Patanjali Samiti.
The devotees are currently safe in a military camp along with 3000
others. Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar this afternoon contacted the stranded and inquired about their safety.
According to the Officer Commanding, GREF (Beacon), Keshav Kumar Agarwal, torrential rain had again destabilised the loose soil and boulders at Gagru, the same spot where the landslide had occurred on Saturday.
Nearly 3,000 yatris who left Jammu early in the morning got stranded at various locations, including Jakhani Chowk, Chenani, Kud, Patnitop, Batote, Chanderkote, Ramban and Banihal after landslides blocked the strategic highway.
The traffic on the highway was disrupted and yatris remained stranded between Chenani and Kud in Udhampur district.
