Verna Police have registered an FIR against unknown persons for allegedly carrying out illegal extraction and transportation of laterite boulders and ordinary earth from government land in Verna village, Salcete.
According to police sources, the accused are suspected to have removed laterite stones and earth without obtaining the necessary permissions from the competent authorities. The unauthorised activity is estimated to have caused a loss of ₹1.24 lakh to the state exchequer.
The offence reportedly came to light following a complaint regarding illegal excavation on government property. A case has been registered against unidentified individuals, and further investigation is underway to ascertain those responsible.
Police are also probing the extent of excavation and whether heavy machinery was used in the alleged illegal operation. Efforts are being made to identify the persons involved and recover the loss incurred by the government.
