Vested elements should not try to divide Goans on basis of religion: Churchill

MARGAO: Former Benaulim MLA Churchill Alemao on Saturday state that nobody should try to divide the people of Goa in the name of religion and also warned those trying to create unnecessary confusion among peace loving Goans.

Addressing a press conference, Churchill also informed that he would be write to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah urging to resolve the issue of dual citizenship.

Welcoming the statement made by the Prime Minister Modi at the recently held meeting at Fatorda, Churchill said Modi put an end to the issue of some elements in Goa trying to create divisions among the people by stating that Saint Xavier Francisco Xavier was a peace loving.

“There are some elements who are deliberately trying to disturb the harmony of the state of Goa by raising issues on St Francis Xavier and on the Church at Sancoale. They should keep in mind that Goans are peace loving people and will not fall prey to anybody,” Churchill said while hinting at Subhash Velingkar.

He once again urged the State and Central Government to resolve the dual citizenship issue once and for all.

“The government should keep in mind that those Goans holding Portuguese passports have done so for the sake of earning their livelihood. They are the voters of India and should continue to enjoy all rights. By trying to cancel their Indian Passport and depriving them from their rights is an injustice. One must not forget that they are Indians, Churchill stated.

Meanwhile, he also questioned the issue of EVMs and stated that he was not taken seriously then.
