MARGAO: Frustrated with ‘anti-social activities’ happening in fields and open playgrounds in the village at night , several citizens of Benaulim have filed a complaint with the police, exhorting them to put an end to the nuisance immediately.
Speaking to O Heraldo on the condition of anonymity, as they fear threats from the men involved, citizens have claimed that these anti-social activities in ward Cana and Adsulim of Benaulim village are ruining the peace of the villagers.

In the complaint, a citizen alleged that several individuals can be seen gathering along the narrow road in the locality, and openly conducting gambling games with dice and cards in the adjourning fields.
“These individuals consume alcohol and tobacco products and litter the road with wrappers and dirty the fields. They are boisterous in nature and conduct their games in loud voices well into the late night and sometimes, these games even end up in violent fights,” said the complaint.
Citizens have claimed that these individuals organize bullfights in the fields, which were patronised by hundreds of spectators who parked their vehicles along the narrow road and completely blocked the movement of vehicles in the locality.
The complaint also added that a doctor who resides in the area is also facing a tough time in conducting her house visits or tending to her patients, as her movement is being restrained.
“Those involved in the anti-social activities are turning violent and abusing local residents if we request them to stop their illegal
activities in the area,” said the villagers.The citizens have requested the personnel from the Colva police station to conduct regular patrolling and surveillance in the Adsulim and Tollea band areas of Benaulim village and take efforts to curb the illegal activities of gambling, public drinking, bullfights and brawls which are a daily occurrence.
