As expected, Vilma Cardozo, backed by Education Minister Babush Monseratte, won the Zilla Parishad elections defeating Save Taleigao Front candidate Anabella Pereira by 3949 votes.
In a straight fight, Vilma polled 4699 as against 750 polled by Anabella Pereira.
In St Cruz, Lawrence Fernandes, a candidate backed by the MLA Victoria Fernandes, managed to win by a slender margin of 71 votes.
Lawrence bagged 2390 votes, to defeat Suresh Govind Palkar, who secured 2319 votes.
Brigida Vincent Cardozo (425), Elias Lawrence Dias (293), Prakash Mahadev Sawant (181), Sunil Manohar Santinezkar (298) were the other candidates in fray in St Cruz.
