Vishvesh Dessai, owner of Pruthvi Developers, has taken up a cleanliness initiative to remove garbage accumulated in the mangrove areas along the Zuari River at Karai, Shiroda.
Dessai has so far collected around four tonnes of garbage, funding the cleanup drive from his own pocket. He said he plans to continue the initiative and extend the cleanliness drive to additional areas along the river.

Dessai has appealed to Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant and the concerned government authorities to extend support to the initiative, which would enable the cleanup effort to cover a larger stretch of the river and its surrounding areas.
He also urged people in Goa to refrain from dumping waste into rivers and other water bodies, highlighting the importance of keeping waterways clean to protect the environment and aquatic life, including fish.
“Everyone must take responsibility for keeping our rivers clean. We should avoid dumping garbage into rivers and work together to protect our environment and aquatic life,” Dessai said.
The initiative highlights the role that community-led efforts can play in addressing waste accumulation along Goa’s rivers and environmentally sensitive mangrove areas.
