PANJIM: Health Minister Vishwajit Rane has welcomed the State Cabinet’s decision to shift the IIT campus to Sattari claiming it was his “dream come true”.
The Cabinet, on Friday, in principle approved the transfer the 10 lakh square metres of land of Revenue Department to the IIT building at Guleli, Sattari. The decision to shift the campus came after several locals in Sanguem opposed setting up the national institute in the vicinity of the town.
In a statement issued to the media on Saturday, Rane said the project will not only transform Sattari and Usgao but also benefit Sanquelim constituency, which is represented by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant.
“Difficult to contain my excitement! I am extremely happy to announce that the CM has approved the land for building #IITinGoa, that too in Sattari, which is one of my biggest dreams come true! Extremely grateful to CM Pramod Sawantji for considering my suggestion of bringing it to Guleli. I assure to support him by all means in this landmark decision,” he said.
The minister, who also represents Valpoi constituency in Sattari, went on to state that the taluka besides Usgao is his lifeline. “They are an extended part of my family. I assure to work hard in transforming them and providing our people with the state-of-art facilities. On behalf of each and everyone of my constituency, I thank the CM for considering my suggestion of identifying Guleli as the location for building IIT. A proud moment for all of us,” he added.
The premier engineering and technology institute in Goa is functioning since July 2016 on temporary campus at Goa Engineering College campus at Farmagudi. As a part of the mentoring project, IIT Bombay is mentoring IIT Goa.
