PANJIM: The government will soon begin the process to procure equipment for the new South District hospital, or new Hospicio hospital, through Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation.
Health Minister Vishwajit Rane and Town and Country Planning Minister Vijai Sardesai, addressing a press conference, said that while the work on the hospital is on, the processes of recruitment and equipment procurement will be conducted simultaneously.
“We will appoint a committee which will interact with GSIDC on a day-to-day basis on completion of works. The work is on but the contractor needs to be pushed further which the committee would do now,” Rane said.
Rane said while the recruitment process for 200 staff has already begun, equipment procurement will be done by GSIDC. “I do not want to get into procurement. Let GSIDC do it by appointing a committee. Of course the committee should have medical experts or doctors,” he said adding, “It is best that one agency does entire work.”
Sardesai said that he hopes the hospital is completed at the earliest. “Hopefully by next Independence Day South Goa residents will be free from the pain of coming all the way to Goa Medical College in Bambolim,” he said.
Sardesai said the government will make all medical arrangements in Hospicio so that patients need not be shifted to GMC. “Farmers have parted with their land and I feel they need to get justice by way of successful completion of this hospital,” he said.
