PANJIM: The State government’s ‘Vision for All’ programme, being held across various municipal areas, since first week of February, has now got clearance from the State Election Commission (SEC) on Wednesday.
SEC while issuing No Objection Certificate (NOC) to the Directorate of Health Services (DHS), directed to ensure that the programme is held without violating the Model Code of Conduct, which is currently in force in view of elections in 11 municipalities and the Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP).
The ‘Vision for All- free Eye Checkup and Surgery Camp’, held in Panjim on Wednesday, raised question over violation of model code of conduct. The camp, had no official launch as announced earlier, as the Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant refrained from participating in the event.
A similar camp is also scheduled in Pernem on Thursday.
When contacted, SEC nodal officer Dr Durga Prasad said that DHS has been granted NOC by the election commission for organizing the camps since it is a continuous programme going on for past many days. “It is not a new event,” he said.
The Election Officer said that DHS is been directed to ensure that there is no violation of model code of conduct and failure to adhere to the directions will amount to action.
The ‘Vision for All’ camps have been so far held in Bicholim, Valpoi, Margao, Sanguem and Quepem.
The municipal areas are set to go for poll on March 20.
