MARGAO: Governor Bharat Vir Wanchoo on Sunday underlined the need for more and more well-intentioned and visionary voluntary institutions with a developmental and welfare approach to supplement governmental measures and action in order to bring about greater progress.
Speaking at the centenary celebrations of Margao-based Mathagramastha Hindu Sabha in the city here on Sunday, the governor said that voluntary organisations can play a crucial role to strengthen the democratic system by organising and mobilising people, by articulating the needs and priorities of the society and by extending help and assistance to the people
“We in India still have a plethora of social problems unresolved. Access to quality health care, basic education and other essential services have to improve dramatically. Caste, class and gender barriers need to be broken down at the very earliest. The living conditions of our people in the villages and rural areas need attention and considerable improvement. There is an ardent need to strike a delicate and fine balance between development and environment”, he said.
The governor emphasised on the need to have social welfare institutions supported and led by men and women with human sympathy, compassion, social vision and dynamism, while expressing the hope that Mathagramastha Hindu Sabha will continue to serve the society with renewed enthusiasm and social responsibility and undertake new and innovative initiatives in the interest of society.
On the occasion, Damodar Narcinva Naik, Madha G Poy Raiturcar, Shanu Pai Panandiker, Sadanand R Lotliker, Tulshidas D Parodkar and Principal of Higher secondary school, Uday V Ballikar were felicitated at the hands of the chief guest.
