MARGAO: The issue of noise pollution by the Muslim community at Guirdolim dominated the gram sabha of Chandor-Cavorim presided by sarpanch Etelvina J Antao.
Chandor villagers expressed their objection over the use of mike in the premises used as prayer room, in the Masjid by the Muslim community located at Guirdolim-Chandor border for causing noise pollution and disturbing peace and tranquillity of locals.
Chandor residents pointed that recently installed mike system was used causing noise pollution disturbing peace of local residents. They also pointed to sarpanch that in year 1992 then Guirdolim sarpanch late Bill Cardozo who allowed use of premises for prayer room had put condition that no noise pollution should be caused. Sarpanch promised to take up the issue with authorities concerned to stop use of mike during prayers.
Villagers also expressed need for increase of police personnel at the existing outpost in village. They also demanded that the panchayat move for the up gradation of existing police out post. Villagers claimed that there has been increase in thefts in village and demanded that police be asked to intensify patrolling in village. They lamented that police have failed to nab culprits involved in recent thefts in village and demanded action be taken.
Even though the issue of migrants has figured at gram sabha meetings in the past, the villagers questioned the panchayat on measures taken to keep a check on migrants.
Deputy Sarpanch Marcelo A Fernandes informed gram sabha members that villagers had been requested to give details of migrant staying in their rented premises but sadly the villagers had not cooperated.
It was informed that as demanded a ward wise survey of migrants shall be carried by the panchayat body and villagers were requested to cooperate.
