MARGAO: There was a major issue in Fatorda, during poling on Tuesday, when a woman voter was allegedly caught clicking a photo in the voting booth, after she had cast her vote. When Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai complained about this and went to the Fatorda police station, he expressed alarm that the woman had been allowed to go by the police at the behest of a certain BJP leader and alleged that this was part of a larger attempt to cover up the issue.
Sardesai further alleged that it was the ploy of the BJP leaders to ask voters, to click photos to confirm who they have voted for, in order to secure favours from these leaders through the government.
Sardesai added that this incident happened not just in Fatorda but across the State.
The Goa Forward Party (GFP) President added that his party would file an immediate complaint before the Election Commission and demanded accountability and alleged that it is an example of how the elections are being rigged.
He also stressed that the secrecy of each citizen’s vote is enshrined under the constitution.
Elsewhere on a lighter note, former Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu interacted with BJP workers at BJP’s model booth in Margao.
Meanwhile, two polling agents of the Bharatiya Janata Party were found violating the code of conduct as both displayed the names of their party candidate within the polling booths yesterday.
In the first instance, this violation was reported at Booth No 42 situated at Dovurdem in Balli as the polling agent was carrying a sticker with the candidate’s name in the booth.
The second such incident was reported at Booth No 20 at Demani in Cuncolim where again the polling agent entered the booth with a sticker carrying the candidate’s name.
