MARGAO, APRIL 16
With less than a week to go for the Lok Sabha polls, voters without EPIC cards made a beeline before the District Election Office in the district Collectorate building for Election Photo Identity Cards.
Wednesday saw voters standing in a serpentine queue since morning for the photography exercise and get their names registered in the electoral rolls.
The huge turn out of voters for photography has put pressure on the staff engaged by the Election officials. A voter told Herald that he is awaiting his turn for photograph since half an hour, but in vain.
When contacted, an election official said the photography exercise will continue till April 20 and will be held between 10 am to 12.30 pm and 2.30 pm to 5.30 pm.
Officials in the know informed that a large number of voters have applied for the EPIC card the last few days, including migrants. Armed with ration cards and other proof of residence, the migrants managed to get the EPIC cards, which will entitle them to cast their vote in the coming polls.
In the past too, migrants had made a beeline to the district election office for EPIC cards with political patronage from their masters in the city and across Salcete.
