PANJIM: In an unexpected move, the first alleged accused in the Louis Berger International bribery scam Anand Wachasundar withdrew his bail plea before the District & Sessions Court on Tuesday. The sacked JICA project director, who has spent eight days in custody undergoing interrogation, submitted the application without citing any reason.
The application only mentioned that he was ‘not interested in going ahead with the bail application’ filed before the Principal Sessions Judge B P Deshpande last week.
Speaking to media outside the court, Public Prosecutor Prasad Kirtani said the petitioner had not given any grounds for taking this step. “But it is a simple application withdrawing the bail application,” he added.
Wachasundar was arrested on July 27 and remanded to four days police custody, which was extended by another four days on August 1.
He will be produced before the court on Wednesday where Crime Branch will seek either his further custody or judicial remand.
There was speculation that Wachasundar withdrew the bail application as he wanted to turn State approver. Sources, however, denied making him approver as it has evidence in the case.
