PONDA: Aggrieved over water shortage for four months, Wagurme villagers in Priol constituency confronted Assistant Engineer Rashmi Shirodkar at PWD water supply division at Dag Ponda, on Wednesday.
The women brought to the notice of AE the hardship they are facing due to lack of water. Since the taps are running dry, the women are forced to travel a long distance to fetch water from springs.
The women told the AE that sometimes they receive water but that too late at night between 12 pm and 6 pm; and to collect water, they spend sleepless nights.
If this situation continued, the woman threatened that they would stage an agitation on Opa-Khandepar road and would block the road which leads to Opa Water treatment Plant.
The women had given the AE eight days time to solve the issue. A couple Ashwini Naik and Ajith Naik said that despite OPA water treatment plant is operating near their village, they are facing water shortage and would not tolerate it.
Meanwhile, AE Rashmi Shirodkar said due to low pressure in pipeline, the people are facing hardship. “Our engineers are visiting Wagurme pipeline once in four days and monitoring the situation. The issue will be solved in eight days time,” she said.
