VASCO: A war of words broke out between Vasco MLA Carlos Almeida and NCP Goa president Jose Philip D’Souza over the lack of development in Vasco.
Addressing a press conference in Vasco on Thursday, D’Souza, who is also the former Vasco MLA, slammed Almeida for not taking up any developmental projects and claimed that the latter was only efficient in playing the political blame game for the last four years.
“It is a fact that Vasco is lagging behind in development only because the projects proposed during my tenure have been either kept on hold or scrapped after giving vague reasons. The cost of the projects that were proposed four or five years ago have now doubled,” said D’Souza.
He continued, “It’s only a matter of waiting one year for the next assembly elections. People are angry at the way Almeida fooled not only the council, but also the people of the port town with fake promises. He stalled all my projects and did nothing but lay the foundation stone for the signature building project.
He even stalled other projects, including the fish market and administrative building projects, for which the work had already started.”
Meanwhile, Almeida accused the former MLA of proposing improperly planned projects that would have burdened the state treasury. He said, “It was D’Souza’s brother Pascoal and his wife Neny who provoked the fishing community and hindered the fish market project. Similarly, the administrative building project was not planned properly, and if it taken up, then we would have had to spend more than Rs 20 crore for the foundation. I have documents to prove that I did my duties as MLA by making fresh plans for all these projects. D’Souza should also furnish papers to give prove that he did some leg work of the projects for the port town. He only played the political blame game.”
