ALDONA: Meet Jacinto Sequeira, a resident of the village of Panth in Carona, who has turned his passion for crafting into a unique Christmas tradition. As the festive season unfolds, people across Goa engage in various preparations, from decorations and crib making to star crafting and shopping. Amid the holiday hustle, Jacinto stands out as he transforms driftwood into exquisite Christmas cribs.

His journey into this creative venture began when a friend noticed Jacinto’s natural talent and urged him to channel it into something more. Each year, he dedicates time and patience to carve, finish, and paint these creations, making them a labour of love.

Using materials like thermocol, plaster of Paris, and waste wood, Jacinto’s cribs boast unique patterns and designs. He also incorporates lights into his creations, enhancing their beauty during the night. “It takes three to four days to complete a single crib. The intricate detailing and artistry make each crib a stunning piece of Christmas decor.

Despite the challenges, Jacinto has been pursuing this passion for six years, creating around 15 cribs annually. His family supports him in this endeavour, contributing to the festive spirit. Utilising social media for publicity, Jacinto has garnered attention and receives orders from people who appreciate his talent.

With only two weeks until Christmas, Jacinto’s message resonates: amidst the holiday rush, he encourages everyone to take the time to create beautiful cribs, decorate, and strengthen family bonds.
