Water enters houses, shops in Arambol after heavy rains

MAPUSA: After heavy rains, thunder and lighting, rainwater entered houses and shops in Armabol on Friday night.
People said that absence of roadside drains in Arambol resulted in flooding.  They say the absence of drains has led to water accumulating on the main road resulting in water entering houses and shops located near the road near the Arambol petrol pump.
The accumulation of water also led to minor accidents, where three motorbikes skidded, leading to injuries.
Blaming the local body, locals said the panchayat had carried out unplanned beautification at the roadside and added that the beautification and widening of road work was flawed because the contractor did not make provisions for roadside drains.
This is the result of negligence from the part of the contractor who failed to provide drains. If there are no drains rain water will enter into people’s houses and shops, a local, Anil Parab said.
If this is the effect of rain on one day, imagine what will be the situation when the actual monsoon starts. Why such an unplanned development, asked another local.
