PONDA: Although the delayed monsoon is causing water shortages across Goa as water levels at various dam keep dipping, what exactly are the water prospects for people of Tiswadi and Ponda? Well the news is that Opa water works river reservoir level measured 5 metre on Tuesday. The short spells of rain has filled the reservoir level to the brim and the water is about to overflow.
The officials thanked the rain Gods since it has been raining for the past few days at Western Ghats bordering Karnataka. Following this occurrence, pumping of water from Mining pits was stopped.
On Monday, the water level at Opa measured 4.60 meter and Tuesday it almost reached 5 metre. Opa has a maximum water storage capacity of 6 metre but it is not possible to store at this level as water reaches nearby villages.
According to officials in peak summer Opa water level reduces and is normally maintained at 3 to 3.5 metres from various sources of water. This is done by pumping water from Salaulim dam Ganjem bandhara, besides Dudhsagar river too pump of water to treatment plants.
Meanwhile the scanty rain in Goa since the past few days helped Mhaisal dam (10MLD treatment Plant) at Panchawadi and water level measured at 15 per cent and it is learnt that following this plant also started treatment of 2 MLD water daily.
