MARGAO: Protests were held at the Sewerage and Infrastructural Development Corporation of Goa Ltd (SIDCGL) after water supply to residents of Ramnagri area in Curtorim constituency was stopped, leaving them in dire straits.

Their water supply had been cut on the order of the Health Department, reportedly due to a sewage issue.

However, the angry residents accompanied by former Curtorim ZP Moreno Rebelllo gheraod Prakash Pai, Executive Engineer of the SIDCGL.

They pointed out that even after five years of laying the sewage canal in Ramnagari, it isn’t functional as yet. They added that they had applied for the connection of the sewerage network months ago but they are yet to get the connection. Rebello criticised the government for harassing the locals and questioned why the authorities could not make adequate arrangements for sewage disposal before cutting off their water connection.  He further added that if the PWD cannot complete the pending work on the sewerage network then PWD Minister Nilesh Cabral should resign and sit at home.

He also urged the Health Department not to act against the residents until the PWD finishes the work.
