Tourism dept directs operators to fall in line

PANJIM: The Directorate of Tourism on Thursday allowed water sports activities to resume at Colva after clashes between two factions resulted in a breakdown of the queue system, forcing the department to stop operation for two days.
In an order passed Thursday, the department allowed water sports activities to resume and directed the operators to fall in line. The order directed the operators to prepare a statement of fees collected on a daily basis for sharing among the constituents of the queue system.
All boat owners were directed to have valid registration from the Captain of Ports for Colva beach and Tourism Department and only these would form part of the queue system and the association will not deprive any member from this
facility without express orders from the Tourism
Department.
According to officials, the warring factions Thursday mutually agreed that 2.5 per cent of the total fees collected on daily basis will be deposited in a common fund which will be used to defray the expenses towards salaries and other office costs. The department has directed that a proper account of this common fund be maintained and furnished to all the constituent members on a fortnightly basis.
All applicable taxes and statutory payments should be the liability of all the individual operators of the queue system, directed the department to the water sports operators at Colva.
They were also directed to furnish proper receipts to the tourists and guests who avail the water sports facilities from the counter.
Likewise directions were given that there should be no operation of water sports activities after sunset and all safety measures be strictly followed.
Meanwhile, the directorate of tourism floated tenders to appoint an agency to put the entire water sports operations in place through a well-regulated queue and ticketing system. Officials say that this new system would come into force in the next season and the process is also on to notify uniform water sports tariffs.
