PANJIM: Canon India’s three day annual Leadership Summit at Hotel Marriott Panjim saw the launch of the new brand of digital services and the introductory P201 ‘My Personal Scanner’, a slim portable scanner the size of a smart phone.
This model affords instant digitization of customer details and is suitable for such services as sales and courier. Primarily launched for the partners, P201 ‘My Personal Scanner’, has already garnered interest.
Speaking exclusively to Herald, Dr Alok Bharadwaj, Executive Vice President, Canon India explained Canon’s expansion plans. “We are moving to a new domain, not just product services but business services as well.” This follows in the wake of the company’s strong position as market leaders in the office imaging industry.
Innovation has been the company’s by-word, pioneering five technology imaging engines, in the past few years. Recording an exceptional growth over the past 15 years, the company raked in a revenue of Rs 1,850 crore in 2012 itself ~ a 21% growth over 2011. However this year, for the first time ever, Canon India experienced a flat year ~ a tough economy and rupee devaluation being the causes. However the good news as Bharadwaj points out is that business to business has raked in 11% growth this year and continues to grow. “Last year we had Rs 400 crore and this year we expect it to rise to Rs 450 crore. The income to be accrued from the new domains is pegged at Rs 100 crore,” he states.
With offices spread across 10 cities in India, the company markets 140 digital imaging products in the country. The present conference has served to introduce Canon India’s digital services but the Managed Print Services (MPS) launched three years ago are a forerunner to this digitization service. To date, around 85 large companies in India, featuring names like Maruti Suzuki, Yes Bank, Ranbaxy among others have successfully implemented the MPS.
Canon team will also assist companies in storing digital information. In this value chain, Canon is also tying up with a Records Management Company (RMC) which will maintain and store the physical records under strict surveillance. Canon has already signed the first deal for this service with a Delhi based company and several others have evinced a keen interest in the services.
Assessing the in-house printing that most large enterprises are plagued with, Canon has devised the innovative Print Room Services (PRS). “Large companies invariably have volumes of in-house printing to do, which they often outsource. The PRS, Canon will help to maintain the company’s print room with our machines and additionally provide machines say like a binder, card-box backing unit, which we do not make so as to create a complete infrastructure for printing services,” explains Bharadwaj. The PRS will hit the markets in the next six months.
While Goa has been Canon India’s annual gathering spot for conferences and events, the company is yet to make any big business forays in the State.
