PANJIM: Claiming that they are capable to give a secular, progressive and performing Governance to the people of Goa, the Congress party on Tuesday appealed to the allies in the BJP led government to take a conscious call and desert the headless saffron party in the interest of the State.
Addressing media persons, Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) spokesperson Adv Yatish Naik said that it is high time that the interest of the State, which is currently been destroyed by the BJP government, is protected. “The current BJP led coalition government is without a head in the absence of ailing Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar,” he said.
“The people of Goa don’t deserve a headless…a leaderless government. BJP government is on mode to destroy Goa. It is been nine months that Chief Minister is ailing and there is complete administrative collapse,” he stated.
Naik said that in the interest of the State, we appeal the allies in the Parrikar led government to take conscience call and desert BJP in the interest of people, who have elected them. “There is a Gomantak and Goa in the names of allies and we feel, that the parties need to think in the interest of Gomantak and Goa and take a decision,” he commented.
Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP), Goa Forward Party (GFP) and three independents are allies of BJP led government in the State. Chief Minister has been undergoing treatment since February related to pancreatic ailment. Since mid August, he has been completely out of administration. After initial health review in USA, he was shifted to Lilavati in Mumbai and later to AIIMS in Delhi, before returning back to Goa last week.
Referring to current internal clash in ruling BJP, Congress leader pointed out how a former Chief Minister (Laxmikant Parsekar) has targeted his own State leadership….how core committee members are unhappy…fight between MLAs and Ministers…etc. “BJP has become a chaotic party with a difference,” he said.
“But the party has no right to make State administration chaotic. Hence, the allies need to take a decision now for the people of Goa, who are the ultimate sufferers. BJP needs to be deserted for ruining Goa,” Naik said.
Responding to a question on whether this is a signal to the coalition partners to join hands with Congress, Naik said that Congress party is capable to give a stable, secular, progressive and performing government to the people. “We are capable to form the government and that was the reason why we had given memorandum of President of India and Goa Governor. But failed to get reply from them,” he said.
Congress party is currently reduced to 14 MLAs, after resignation of two- Subhash Shirodkar and Dayanand Sopte.
