Weak Cong supporting independents: BJP

BICHOLIM: Expressing confidence in the victory of all its four candidates from Bicholim taluka, the BJP on Friday claimed that the Congress has lost its strength and have been forced to support independent candidates.

Addressing a news conference here in the city, Deputy Speaker Anant Shet said BJP has done tremendous work since the last three years and has been trying to woo new businesses in the State.
“BJP has worked for the people and has done development in several fields. We recently started an Investment Board and are getting new companies from various fields, including IT, so that educated youth need not go out of the State to look for jobs,” he said. Sanquelim MLA Dr Pramod Sawant said the first phase of ZP election campaigning is over and added that they have been getting good response from the people.
“Congress has lost its hold and they don’t even have a candidate for the election. They are forced to support independent candidates, rather than openly supporting them,” said Dr Sawant.
Speaking on the mining issue, Dr Sawant said BJP is with the people. “We have tried to solve the problem and resumption of mining is pending only because the EC suspension is yet to be revoked and it will be done in next 10-15 days.”
“Government always tried to help mining dependents through various schemes and since the last 15 months BJP has given about Rs 6 crore per month to the truck owners. There is also road tax rebate and about Rs 600 crore has been reserved for them so that mining dependents could opt for settlement schemes for their loans,” he said.
