PANJIM: The week-long Panjim Shigmotsav will start at the Azad Maidan, Panjim from Monday, March 25.
According to the organisers, this year will be the 36th anniversary of the Panjim Shigmotsav and the Panaji Shigmotsav Samiti has planned various programmes from March 25 to 31.
The Panaji Shigmostav Samiti will celebrate Gulaotsav at Azad Maidan, Panjim on Monday morning for the 17th time in the history of the Samiti, on Holi day. After taking blessings of Shree Mahalaxmi the Samiti members and revellers will participate in the procession along with Romtamell from Shree Mahalaxmi Temple to Azad Maidan, Panjim, where the revellers will dance to the tunes of the live orchestra.
The Shigmo floats parade will be held on Saturday, March 30. The floats (Chitrarath), romtamell, Lok Kala Nutrya (folk dance) and fancy dress contest for junior and senior category. Cash prizes will be awarded in all the categories sponsored by the Goa Tourism.
In the floats parade, five cash prizes of Rs 75,000, Rs 60,000, Rs 50,000, Rs 45,000 and Rs 40,000 will be given. Besides, the Dempo Group of Companies will give Rs 15,000 to the first prize winners and Rs 10,000 each to the second and third prize winners.
Besides this, five consolation prize and 20 more prizes of Rs 10,000 each will be awarded.
In the romtamell category, cash prizes of Rs 75,000, Rs 50,000, Rs 40,000, Rs 30,000 and Rs 20,000 and 10 consolation prizes of Rs 5,000 each will be awarded. In addition to this, the Dempo Group of Companies will give Rs 15,000 to the first prize winner and Rs 10,000 each to the second and third prize winner. The total prize amount would be Rs 10.57 lakh.
