Cuncolim: Misguided by the authorities, more than 300 migrant workers thronged to Cuncolim Police Station to get the No Objection Certificate (NOC) to return to their respective native places, on Monday.
Drawing an analogy, comparing themselves to a football, the migrants workers alleged that the government authorities have been kicking them from one office to other to get permission to travel to their home town.
They informed police officers that they have registered their names at Cuncolim Municipal Council (CMC) to get permission to return to their home town and claimed that the CMC had advised them to get NOC from police officer, which is needed to go back to their native place.
However, the police told them they do not issue such a certificate and it’s the Collector’s office which does the procedure. The migrant workers felt humiliated and the police officers sent them back to CMC’s office.
Later, the CMC officers put the ball in Collector’s court.
More 1, 500 migrant workers from Odisha, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka etc had registered their names at CMC office to go back to their native States.
Some of the workers informed media that they are helpless and nobody is ready to help them. Some of them are jobless and have no food to eat and money in their purse. They have no idea when the lockdown period will get over as they have no option left but to leave the State. The workers also said that their landlords are harassing them to pay rent.
