PANJIM: All of Goa was plunged into complete darkness on Friday evening due to the collapse of the Western Grid.Electricity Department officials said that the five lines coming from Kolhapur tripped, cutting off power supply to entire Goa, except for Ponda and some parts in Quepem.
Speaking to Herald, Electricity Executive Engineer Paul Fernandes said, “The major power failure occurred as a result of all five lines coming from Maharashtra to the state tripping off causing the entire State to plunge into darkness for almost 20 minutes.”
He added, “Power was restored phase wise within a span of 20 minutes. The entire State was in darkness due to the power grid failure. The line was of 4000KV.”
Electricity Department officials said power was being restored in phases by diverting power from other grids and that while power was restored in some parts of the capital city there were still some northern areas, including Mapusa, where power was restored after Panjim.
