OLD GOA: Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar on Friday said he would apprise BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi on major issues like special status, mining imbroglio and the registration of birth in Portugal.
Parrikar was speaking to the media after inspecting the progress of the work at the venue at Merces bypass road.
“Special status is needed for Goa to maintain its identity,” Parrikar said and added that he will apprise Modi on resolving the mining imbroglio through legal means on the lines of Karnataka.
“I will also take up the issue of registration of birth in Portugal as it is likely to affect many Goans,” he stated while clarifying that it does not mean that he will take up the cause of those who have registered as Portuguese citizens.
He said the Vijay Sankalp rally would be the biggest political rally in the history of Goa as over 1.5 lakh people will participate while stating that the work at the venue will be completed by 12 noon on Saturday.
North Goa MP Shripad Naik, who was accompanying Parrikar, said Modi’s visit will prove to be a huge boost to the party at the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls and the BJP will win both the seats in the State. “The rally will decide the future of the Lok Sabha poll outcome,” Naik added while stating that the BJP will win by a majority and form the government at the Centre.
Speaking on the lay-off of workers by Sesa, Naik warned the management of Sesa and Vedanta of repercussions over the same. “The State government is behind the workers and will not allow the management to go ahead with the lay-off,” he informed while adding that he has already met the MD and requested him to withdraw the notices.
