VASCO: Stating that he will go with whatever decision the BJP takes on the issue of installing the statue of Dr Jack de Sequeira in front of new Assembly Complex at Porvorim, Vasco MLA Carlos Almeida on Wednesday claimed that different resolutions moved by several leaders have created confusion in the minds of the people.
“Firstly, I will go with party’s whip on this issue. Also overall I think the issue of installing statue of Jack Sequeira should have been taken many years back. Why is the Congress now making noise when they failed to do so when they were in power? The issue has led to many controversies, with MGP saying one thing, while our party and other colleagues saying something else. I think that present confusion should be avoided and Goans should continue to live in communal harmony,” Almeida said.
When asked whether he would support Michael Lobo’s resolution on installing the statue of Jack Sequeira in front of the Assembly Complex at Porvorim, Almeida said, “In fact when my colleague MLA Michael Lobo said that he is going to listen to the party then there is no question of supporting him. As he (Lobo) had said that even I will support party’s decision on the issue,” Almeida said.
When asked whether the issue is relevant to Vasco or not, Almeida said, “Firstly in Goa, voting is not being done on the basis of caste or religion but on the basis of performance. Secondly, since Vasco is a cosmopolitan town with people from different states residing here, I don’t think this issue is relevant to Vasco but again in view of all the recent controversies and with so many resolutions moved, government should take some decision as such things will create confusion in the minds of the people,” he said.
