Will the government authorities intervene and provide basic parking facilities for two-wheelers opposite the Margao KTC bus stand?
This question has come to the fore as the land remains undeveloped till date, more than a year after the Margao Municipal Council filled up the low-lying land opposite Rebello hospital for vehicular parking.
The question has become all the more relevant since GSUDA’s plan to develop the land for vehicular parking is unlikely to materialise before the onset of the monsoon. Last monsoon, two-wheeler riders had a torrid time finding space to park their vehicles at the parking lot after incessant rains had inundated the area.
While it’s over a year since the Civic body had carried out the land filling, neither the Municipality nor the PWD has tarred the area, to facilitate orderly parking on the acquired land.
MMC officials could not shed light on the delay in tarring the plot of land, which is being used for two-wheeler parking, but it appears that the Civic body is now waiting for GSUDA to take up the work, which is expected to be completed around December or early next year.
“Instead of talking big about parking plans in the city, the Municipality or the PWD or other government authorities should step in and get the place tarred and give relief to the two-wheeler riders. It’s indeed surprising that the Civic body had moved with haste to fill up the low-lying land but now appears dragging its feet to tar the area,” said Savio Dias, a local resident.
