‘Will resolve Goa’s disputes with Navy in 6 months’

PANJIM: The Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar promised that he would look into all problems related to Goa vis-à-vis the armed forces and resolve them within the next six months. Speaking to media on the Anjediva islands, he said that he would look into the matter and try and find a solution.

The island off the coast of Karwar used by the Navy and a plot of land in the heart of the city occupied by the army have been sore points for locals and many complaints have been sent to the Centre to sort out the issue.
According to a section of Goans since October 4, 2004 (Feast of St Francis de Assisi) the Sea Bird authorities had prohibited the celebrations of thefeast of Our Lady of Springs on the Anjediva Island.
 citing security reasons.
The Corporation of the City of Panjim has also been asking for the return of a garage being used by the Army arguing that under the agreement for giving the army more land at Bambolim it was supposed to return this garage back to the civilian authorities.
