ARAMBOL: Arambol locals have been grappling with multiple issues as it looks forward to welcoming Lord Ganesh albeit with some anxiety. Water shortage has been a constant headache for the locals and potholes on the roads have made the lives of residents miserable. Many locals including former panchayat members have expressed their annoyance towards the lack of basic facilities in the village.
Motorists had heaved a sigh of relief last week when potholes on the road near salt pans were repaired. However, many more roads need immediate attention as many tourists and locals have been victims of the pot-holed ridden roads.
“There are about 7-8 deadly potholes on Khalchawada beach road and it’s going to be extremely difficult to carry Ganesh idols,” said former panch Dilip Vast.
“The roads at Girkarwada are dangerous. The motorists, especially visitors with rented two-wheelers, drive or ride on their left side as they should be but they fail to gauge the potholes. Last week, two foreigners were injured after falling into the potholes,” said another former panch Abhay Naik.
Meanwhile, the road near the fish market is always in bad condition and for the last several years youths from the area repair the potholes by spending from their own pockets. However, locals were relaxed after PWD Minister’s announcement of undertaking repair works at the earliest. However it has remained a distant dream, rued a local.
“PWD Minister Cabral needs to understand that real Goa lives in the villages. They should tour rural interiors to feel the reality,” Ramakrishna Majik, a local stated.
