MARGAO: Claiming that the students from Cuncolim and Quepem are facing hardships due to the lack of proper bus services, the National Students Union of India (NSUI)- Quepem and Cuncolim blocks submitted a memorandum to the Kadamba Transport Corporation, demanding public transport from Cuncolim to Sanvordem via Ambaulim in the afternoon hours.
“College winds up by 1 30pm, and after that, students are forced to travel via Margao or wait until 6 30pm for the next bus from Cuncolim to Sanvordem, via Ambaulim, which is very troublesome”, said Rushab Phaldesai from Quepem.
He said that students are hassled by the lack of buses from Cuncolim to Sanvordem from 2 pm to 6pm, as there is a gap of almost four-and-a-half hours, adding that they are hit badly during semester exams as they cannot reach home on time.
“We can accommodate them if a KTC route already exists along the mentioned areas, but it will be very difficult to provide bus services if a new route has to be created,” said KTC depot manager Girish Gaude, pointing out that new buses will have to be commissioned, and staff recruited.
