CALANGUTE: Calangute Police arrested a young woman for making a false call stating that a bomb has been planted in a popular restaurant at Calangute.
On interrogating of the accused woman, police learnt that she made a hoax call to make the restaurant management suffer losses by shutting it down as she and her friend had an argument with the waiter.
According to Calangute PI Jivba Dalvi, a call was received at the Police Control Room at Panjim from a woman on Tuesday at around 1.15 am informing that a bomb has been planted in a popular restaurant at Calangute beach.
Accordingly, PI Dalvi along with his staff rushed to the spot and within minutes evacuated the restaurant and the surrounding premises without creating panic among the public. The quick reaction team of the Anti-Terrorist Squad was also called at the spot.
PI Dalvi and his staff consisting of PSI Sitaram Malik without waiting for the bomb disposal squad conducted preliminary search of the premises and looked for any suspicious material. Further, the services of the Bomb Disposal Squad and the Dog Squad were requisitioned and a sabotage check was carried out and finally it was confirmed that there was no bomb.
Later, the Calangute PI obtained the subscriber details of the caller and a thorough check of the surrounding area hotels was carried out and based on the call details, the caller was found to be staying in a nearby hotel along with her friend.
Police brought her to the police station wherein she was thoroughly interrogated by PI Dalvi during which she disclosed that she had made the hoax call to make the restaurant management suffer losses by shutting it down as she and her friend had an argument with the waiter.
The accused woman is identified as Rangoli Patel, 23, a resident of Malad West, Mumbai.
Police immediately registered an offence under Section 182, 505(1)(b) & 506 IPC and placed the woman under arrest. The mobile used to make the hoax call has been attached by the police.
