Woman rescued,paramour drowns

A woman who jumped into the Zuari River near the Sanvordem Bridge was rescued, but her lover who tried to rescue her was feared drowned on Wednesday evening.
According to reports, the two lovers were engaged in a conversation on the footbridge for quite some time and they were noticed by crew on nearby barges and some women who were washing their clothes in the river.
Suddenly, the woman jumped into the river and her lover raised an alarm, before he jumped into the river in a bid to rescue her.
A woman, Supriya, who was washing clothes at the site, jumped into the water and managed to rescue the woman from the river. Other women threw sarees but the man could not catch them and disappeared into the river.
The woman rescued from the river was later shifted to Hospicio at Margao in a serious condition.
Curchorem fire services and some divers searched frantically in the river but could not locate the man. PI Bhanudas Dessai is investigating the case.
