CM sets July 15 deadline, wants Hospicio in pink of health

Asserting that Hospicio will see a complete turn around and become one of the best hospitals in the state by July15, Chief Minister, Digambar Kamat warned doctors, nurses and servants that they will have to move out if they do not fall in line with the ongoing efforts to improve the health of the district hospital.
“I have personally decided that by July 15, Hospicio will become one of the best hospitals in the state. This is my responsibility. I have committed my self to the people of the state”, he said, while addressing health workers and citizens after inaugurating the Advocacy workshop on Vector Borne diseases organised by the Margao Urban Healh Centre here today.
Saying that enough is enough with patients and relatives complaining of the ills plaguing Hospicio, the Chief Minister said “it is a fact that when I became the Chief Minister, I was not getting enough time to devote time for Hospicio. But, now I have decided to personally monitor the hospital functioning on a day-to-day basis”.
Saying that the government is making available free medicines to the patients to the tune of nearly Rs two crore annually, he said these medicines should reach the needy and lamented that patients are made to even procure cotton from the market.
“I will henceforth sit and check up with patients on the availability of medicines. I have that capacity to put things in order”, Kamat said and expressed confidence that the hospital would be in the right tracks.
He warned that no indiscipline would be tolerated from any quarter, whether doctors, nurses or servants, adding that the hospital staff has been conveyed the right signal that he means business.
“If these people don’t fall in line, then it is high time, they move out of the hospital”, he said, adding that the functioning of the hospital directly affects the health of the common man.
Complimenting the Margao Urban Health Centre for the pro-active measures initiated to combat vector borne diseases in the city, the Chief Minister said the situation has improved considerably in the last two years and reiterated his government’s commitment to improve the health of the citizens, especially the common man.
In his address, MMC Chairperson Savio Coutinho said that Margao would be free of vector borne diseased due to the persistent follow ups by the Chief Minister and the Margao Urban Health officer.

The Margao Urban Health Officer Dr Geeta Kakodkar the workshop is being organised to spread awareness amongst the people on how to combat the problem of vector borne diseases.
She thanked the political support from the Chief Minister and Fatorda MLA Damu Naik, besides the Collector to tackle vector borne diseases in the city.
